I’ve always been drawn to Brutalist architecture — its scale, repetition, geometry and unapologetic use of material.
Arlington House was the first building I saw on my first trip to Margate, just after getting off the train.
For this piece, I was interested in the rhythm of its repeated balconies and the patterns created by the structure.
I translated these architectural forms into marbled stoneware, combining my fascination with pattern with the physicality of clay.
Architecture becomes pattern.
Pattern becomes structure.
Structure becomes clay.
